A cause for concern emerged today for Real Madrid as their new star forward, Kylian Mbappé, was hospitalized due to a severe case of gastroenteritis (stomach flu).
This news comes just before the team's first match in the FIFA Club World Cup, where he was absent from Wednesday's encounter against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
Real Madrid issued an official statement confirming that Mbappé is suffering from gastroenteritis and has been admitted to the hospital to "undergo several tests and follow appropriate treatment."
The 26-year-old French captain also had to miss Tuesday's training session due to a fever, after which his condition worsened.
Mbappé's absence is a significant blow to both the team and the tournament, especially as he has been Real Madrid's top scorer this season with 31 La Liga goals.
It's also a challenging start for new coach Xabi Alonso, under whose guidance Real Madrid drew 1-1 against Al Hilal. It's currently unclear when Mbappé will be able to return to the month-long tournament on American soil.
The team's next match is on Sunday against Pachuca. Title: Real Madrid Star Kylian Mbappé Hospitalized Due to Gastroenteritis Tags: Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid, Gastroenteritis, Stomach Flu, FIFA Club
